About Dr Manisha
Dr Manisha Abeya is a Practice Principal and registered General Practitioner at Health Plus GP, and one of the most broadly qualified doctors you will find in any GP clinic in Canberra.
Few GPs practising today have trained as deeply, or as widely. Dr Manisha graduated from Guy’s and St Thomas’ Medical Schools, University of London, in 1996, and spent the following years in intensive UK hospital training across surgery, paediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology, and general practice. The breadth of that foundation shapes everything she does in the consulting room today.
Dr Manisha is also bilingual and speaks Sinhalese and English.
Training and Qualifications
Dr Manisha holds postgraduate qualifications in Surgery (MRCS, England), Paediatrics and Child Health (MRCPCH, UK), Obstetrics and Gynaecology (DRCOG, UK), and General Practice (MRCGP, UK), as well as her Australian Fellowship (FRACGP). It’s a combination that very few doctors in the world hold.
For her patients, that training translates into a GP who brings genuine clinical depth to every consultation. Whether she’s managing a complex chronic condition, supporting a patient through a women’s health concern, or assessing a suspicious skin lesion, she has the specialist grounding to go further than most GPs can.

Dr Manisha has practised general medicine in Canberra since 2010, and as a Practice Principal at Health Plus GP, she’s deeply invested in the long-term health of this community.
Her clinical focus spans the full scope of general practice, with particular strength in women’s health, chronic disease management, and skin cancer medicine and surgery. Her surgical background gives her a level of procedural confidence and precision that is genuinely unusual in a GP setting, and patients benefit from that without ever needing to travel to a hospital or specialist clinic.
She has a particular interest in helping women navigate every life stage, with experience in cervical screening, Mirena IUD and Implanon insertions and removals, family planning, and ongoing reproductive health support
Other clinical interests
Beyond women’s health, Dr Manisha has longstanding interests in diabetes management, osteoporosis, and iron deficiency, and is experienced in administering iron infusions in-clinic. She also performs skin cancer assessments, biopsies, and surgical removal for patients who prefer to have their care managed locally by a doctor who knows their history.
